Ghekiere Transhipment and Terminal Tank Storage has 12 barges ranging from 750 to 3,650 tonnes for inland shipping. The entire inland shipping fleet has a total capacity of 21,000 tonnes. The ships travel the rivers and canals of the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany. Most of Ghekiere Transhipment and Terminal Tank Storage’s vessels are self-built. The company’s engineers take the hulls and install the tanks, engine rooms, controls, loading and unloading machines, cargo heating, tank washing systems and all the other facilities required. Everything is specifically designed for the transport of oils, fats and derivatives. Ghekiere Transhipment and Terminal Tank Storage has always used steel and stainless steel for constructing tanks and instruments to ensure higher standards of hygiene, more efficient cleaning and increased product quality. The tanks are fitted with hot water heating. The tanks are cleaned on the way back from every delivery so that they are available immediately when they reach the next loading port. The high pumping capacity (300 – 600 m3/hour) and design of the tanks ensure fast loading and unloading of cargo. The crews work according to a schedule of one week on, one week off. This means Ghekiere Transhipment and Terminal Tank Storage can guarantee availability 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. All vessels are equipped with the latest navigation, communication and computer systems.

MARITIME SHIPPING

The coasters ‘Star Aruba’, ‘Star Bonaire’ and ‘Star Curacao’ represent Ghekiere Transhipment and Terminal Tank Storage’s modern, short sea fleet. They are used primarily for shipments of vegetable oils and fats between Rotterdam and a number of major European ports. The Star Aruba (1,250 tonnes) has been in operation since 1993 and has 10 tanks of 150 m3. The pump and piping system can operate at 350 m3/hour. The tanks and piping are 100% stainless steel. The Star Bonaire (2,500 tonnes), completed in 1997, has four 495 m3 tanks, four 117 m3 tanks and six 78 m3 tanks. The loading and unloading systems are fully computer-operated, which virtually eliminates the risk of contamination. The tanks and pipes are 100% stainless steel. The Star Curaçao (3,750 tonnes) has been in operation since 2009. This is the largest of Ghekiere Transhipment and Terminal Tank Storage’s three tankers with six 610 m3 tanks, one 293 m3 tank and four deck tanks. The pump and piping system can operate at 450 m3/hour. The tanks and piping are stainless steel. All the equipment is based on patented technology.
